Policy of Confidentiality

Redfern Legal Centre acknowledges the importance of the confidential relationship between solicitor and client that extends to everyone employed by or volunteering at the Redfern Legal Centre.

Staff and volunteers must maintain a duty of confidentiality, including the non-disclosure of any information obtained in an manner or in any form during the course of their duties at the Redfern Legal Centre; and

Without limitation, carry out any client interviews, other discussions or meetings in a confidential manner, including carrying on any necessary case discussion relating to a client, with a staff member or other volunteers, in a confidential environment within the Redfern Legal Centre.

Staffing, Resources and Premises

RLC employs 14.9 FTE paid staff including an Executive Officer, an Administrator, seven solicitors, four tenancy workers, a Domestic Violence Court Support Co-ordinator, a Volunteer Co-ordinator, and an Administration Officer. From time to time the Centre employs appropriately qualified project workers and locums.

RLC operates from premises at the old Redfern Town Hall - the building is owned by City of Sydney Council, which subsidises the rent. The Centre is near a train station, on numerous bus routes, and is fully accessible to people with mobility difficulties. RLC also has branch offices for students at Sydney University (SRC and SUPRA) and at Sydney Institute of TAFE.

  • NSW Attorney-General's Community Legal Services Funding Program
  • NSW Attorney-General's Women's Domestic Violence Court Assistance Program
  • Office of Fair Trading Tenants' Advice and Advocacy Program and Credit Counselling Program
  • Department of Community Services Community Services Grants Program
  • Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services / Financial Counsellors Program

Other sources of funding include the University of Sydney Students Representative Council (SRC) , the Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association (SUPRA) , the Sydney Institute of TAFE and the City of Sydney Council.
