November 2011 – RLC Tenancy Teams Wins TAAP AwardsRLC’s Inner Sydney Tenants’ Advice and Advocacy Service won several awards at the Tenants’ Advice and Advocacy Program Network Meeting. Phoenix van Dyke won the Dead Rabbit Award for her contributions to policy work and the TAAPSTAR Award for work at the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal. Natalie Bradshaw won the People’s Choice Award for casework. Congratulations to ISTAAS! |

* New Statewide Legal Advice Service for International Students at Redfern Legal Centre
RLC started its new legal advice service for international students in NSW on 5 October 2011.
The free, confidential service operates each Wednesday evening from 6:30pm at 73 Pitt St Redfern. Face to face and telephone appointments must be booked by calling 9698 7645. Free interpreters can also be provided.
The service will offer:
- Legal advice on most areas of law. (Advice will not be provided in commercial and conveyancing matters, neighbourhood disputes or for male defendants in Apprehended Violence Order matters.)
- A migration agent to advise students on migration issues associated with their legal problem. (Migration advice will not be provided on permanent residence applications.)

* Redfern Legal Centre, together with the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council, Wirringa Baiya Aboriginal Women's Legal Centre and Mudgin-gal Aboriginal Women's Centre announce a forum on 15 September 2011 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to discuss what they want to ask for in the consultation about recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Australian Constitution. * On 4 August, as part of National Homelessness Week, RLC launched its new Boarders and Lodgers Legal Kit at Parliament House. The Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP, who funded the kit through her Lord Mayor Salary Trust, launched the kit. The Kit highlights the lack of effective legal protection for Boarders and Lodgers in NSW.
