Intake process
Redfern Legal Centre has two Volunteer Legal Assistant Intakes per year.
This is a competitive intake process and not all applications will be successful.
July Intake 2012
Applications Open: Monday 5 March 2012

Applications Open: Monday 1 October 2012
Applications Close: 5:00pm, Friday 4 January 2013
Please note:that not all volunteers will be placed immediately despite attending the induction night, as this will depend on how many shifts are available and your time availability.
What times can I work?
Legal assistants can volunteer on one of the Centre's day-time shifts Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 1pm or 2pm to 6pm.
What level of commitment is required?
The Centre requires legal assistants to volunteer on one day-time shift (either in the morning or afternoon) on weekly basis for at least 6 months.
Requirements
Ability to meet the selection criteria outlined on the page of Application Package.
Training
Successful applicants from the interview will be invited to an induction night that will give them an introduction to the aims and philosophy of the Centre.
Once placed on a shift, new volunteers will also be asked to attend a small group training session that will cover:
- Telephone skills, basic communication and interpersonal skills.
- Office protocol, using Centre resources such as the desk manuals, cultural sensitivity, working with interpreters, use of client info sheets and data collection.
In addition, volunteers are expected to attend other training workshops organised from time to time.
